Many years ago...

On a whim I picked up a little gem called Max Payne. I knew little of it other then it had a sequel that had just been released. I brought it home a popped it in my Xbox. And I found myself compelled by the cut scenes, they were in a graphic novel format. It through me off in the beginning but I soon found myself loving them. The story was, and still to this day is, one of the best I had ever experienced in a game. And when I got Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne, it was even better.

To this day the Max Payne series remains one of my favorites (movie aside, sorry Mark). And when I heard that there was a third soon to come, I was overjoyed. But sadly it was pushed back from 2009 to 2010. I could wait a year, but Rockstar wanted to keep pushing it back. Hopefully this won't be a Duke Nukem: Forever...

New setting, new Max

The first things fans will notice about Max Payne 3 is Max's appearance. He lost his trademark hair and jacket. And in turn, grew a full beard and gained a few pounds. And from the screen shots that have been released, we can see he's not in New York anymore. Rockstar has decided to change things up and try something different in the series. And from what they have released recently, I have faith in them.

Set 8 years after the events of the 2nd game, we find an older and more cynical Max in a "downward spiral", working in a private security sector for a wealthy local family in São Paulo, Brazil. Max is double crossed, finding himself in a "city fully of violence and bloodshed". And, from the looks of the screen shots, I kinda feel bad for whoever double crossed him.

No more Remedy?

Sadly..no. I love Remedy, Alan Wake was amazing and obviously, they birthed Max Payne. Sam Lake is a genius. But they sold the rights to Rockstar. And they are doing there own interpretation of it. But again, I have faith. Rockstar has yet to let me down, so I just hope they don't decide to drop the ball on the one game I'm extremely excited about.

So...when is it coming out?

Well, there's no "official" release date. But, after checking at Game Stop to see when the game is due for release (having paid for the game months ago for pre-order, I'm wondering when I'm getting my $60 worth). I was told December 1st. But I'm not holding my breath. After being pushed back from 2009 all the way to December 1st, 2011, I won't be surprised if it happens again. But I guess we will have to wait and see.

Will Max Payne 3 looks like a winner, even though I haven't seen much. Rockstar knows how to make a good game, so let's hope they have been working there magic on this thing all these years. All I know is, I want to get my hands on this new and improved Max, and relive the first time I played Max Payne back in 2003. Rockstar, I'm waiting.

UPDATE

Recent Max Payne news has arrived, praise the maker!

Along with a bad ass trailer, Rockstar has also given us an official release date. Max Payne 3 is set to release in March 2012. Personally, I can't wait for Max's internal monologue and metaphors.
